Does it actually work?
Yes — you'll hear it going within the first few minutes, and the tray tells the story by morning. Moths, mosquitoes, midges, gnats, flies, flying beetles: if it's out there after dark, the UV draws it in.
It works hardest staked out in the yard rather than right beside you — that way the traffic is pulled away from your table instead of through it.
Won’t it just attract MORE bugs?
The UV light draws bugs that are already in your yard toward the zapper and away from you. It doesn't create new bugs — it intercepts the ones that would have reached you anyway.
That's why it goes out in the yard rather than on the table: staked a few metres off, it pulls the traffic away from where you're sitting. More units in a perimeter means more interception.
Is it safe around kids, pets, and bees?
Yes. The electric grid sits behind a steel cage with gaps too narrow for a finger or a paw, so it's safe to have around kids and dogs. And because it only runs from dusk to dawn, it's already switched off by the time bees and butterflies are out working in the daylight — so it leaves your pollinators alone.

3 Quick Steps for Backyard Protection
How Warden ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤActually Works ?
Check an old hanging zapper and you'll find a tray full of moths — while your ankles are still covered in bites. So you figure zappers just don't work. And you're right, but not for the reason you think.
It's a height problem. Backyard insect traffic runs low — within a couple of feet of the ground, right where your ankles are. A zapper up on a wall or under the eaves is guarding airspace almost nothing is using.
DeckGuard Warden stakes straight into the lawn, down in that zone — and it goes out in the yard rather than beside your chair, so the traffic gets pulled away from the table instead of through it. Everything circling higher — the moths, the midges, the gnats in your glass — the UV takes care of on its own.

What Customers Ask Before Their First Order
How much area does it cover?
One Warden covers up to 200m² — plenty for most patios, decks, or pool areas.
- 1 Warden — up to 200m²
- 2 Wardens — up to 400m²
- 3 Wardens — up to 600m²
Most customers grab two — one covering the deck, one further out in the yard — to cover the whole space with no gaps (and save $149.95). Bigger property? Three wraps it in a perimeter.
Where's the best spot for it?
Out in the yard rather than right beside you — that's the trick most people miss.
- Five to eight metres out from where you sit
- Low, staked into the lawn — that's where the traffic runs
- On the side nearest the garden beds or the shadier corner
Set up that way it pulls insects away from your table instead of towards it. Tray filling fast? You've found the right spot.
What bugs does it kill?
The UV draws in the insects that make an evening outside miserable:
- Mosquitoes
- Moths
- Gnats & no-see-ums
- Flies
- Wasps & hornets
- Other flying insects
No sprays. No candles. No swatting.
Does it work during the day too?
The UV light is most effective after dark when it's visible to insects. During daylight, bugs are less attracted to UV light. DeckGuard is designed for evening and nighttime protection, which is when bug pressure peaks.
Is it even strong enough if it’s solar-powered?
Yes. The panel recharges the built-in battery by day, and at night the zapper runs off that stored power through a 4,500V grid — enough to drop mosquitoes, flies, moths and the rest on contact.
Give the panel a clear run at the sun and it looks after itself. If your yard's shaded or you hit a cloudy stretch, every unit includes a USB-C cable to top it off.
How long does it run on a charge?
A full charge runs it about 8-10 hours — dusk straight through to early morning. The light sensor flips it on at dusk and off at dawn, so it only draws power when it's actually dark. No switches, no timers, no babysitting.
Runtime naturally shortens through winter and long overcast stretches — that's solar doing its thing.
Is it loud? Will it buzz all night?
No constant hum. You'll hear a faint click each time it catches a bug, but there's no buzzing bulb or motor. Staked a few metres out in the yard, most owners stop noticing it after the first night.
Can I leave it outside in the rain?
Yes — the housing is weather-sealed and rated IPX5, so rain and spray are no problem. Just don't site it somewhere water pools, and bring it under cover in a serious storm.
After heavy wind, give the panel angle a quick look. Thirty seconds, and it's the usual fix if one ever seems sluggish.
Does it need cleaning?
Barely — about a minute a week. Switch it off and brush the grid clear. A full tray means it's been earning its keep.
I’ll probably come back and order later.
Most customers say that too. Then bug season peaks and they wish they'd started sooner. Every night without DeckGuard is another evening spent inside or swatting. Our 60-day guarantee means there's zero risk in starting now — but there's a real cost in waiting.
